FULL DAY WINE TOUR

Wednesdays & Fridays
 from 09:15 a.m to 5:30 p.m | 175€ per person

Do you know that is the most durable man-made product in the world? Any guesses?
Well, the answer may surprise you… It’s Madeira (fortified) wine, with more than 500 years old and as famous as (or even more than) Madeira Island. Despite being famous for its fortified wine, Madeira also produces young still wines.

Wine, like life, is meant to be enjoyed, so what’s better than a day around the island enjoying Madeira ́s wines? We ́ll experience a more intimate approach of the island, it ́s vineyards and wine producers, in a group of no more than 12 people.

For over 5 centuries, Madeira wine ́s popularity spans all over the world, so much that most people know the wine better than they know the island. Yes, Madeira is well known for its fortified wine, but did you know the island also produces still wines?

Over the course of your day with us, you will not only taste Madeira wine (our famous fortified wine) and our young still wines (white and red) but also take part on a journey through the wine-making process from the vineyards to the glass of wine.

But our Full Day Wine Tour is also a tour around our island, so you will have the opportunity to admire the amazing landscapes of South and North Coast, passing through our UNESCO classified World Heritage Laurissilva forest and get to know the populations of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, São Vicente and Seixal.
You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy a wine tour and some wine and that certainly helps… Join us and discover what makes our wines so special!

What you can expect

After all the pick-ups, we start the day with a visit in Funchal, to the Blandy’s Wine Lodges – one of the oldest and main Madeira Wine producers in the Island. We will do a tour to their cellars where we will learn about the wine making process and a tasting of 2 Madeira Fortified Wines.

Now it’s time to cross the Island and go to the North Coast where we have lunch not before passing through our UNESCO classified World Heritage Laurissilva forest.

The next stop will be on the north coast of the island in the municipality of São Vicente, the second largest grape growing county in Madeira.

Our lunch will be served in a typical Madeiran manor house and harmonized with several local wines. You will be served a typical Madeiran meal that you can’t find in any restaurant. After lunch we go to Seixal, where we visit the house of a still wine producer. Here we will have another wine tasting.

Time and wine fly when you are having a good time. It is time to return to the south coast, but before we get back to Funchal we will make a last stop at Barbeito’s, another Madeira Wine producer in Câmara de Lobos where we will taste some very special Fortified Madeira Wines.

The return to Funchal will be around 5:00 p.m. arriving at the city centre at 5:30 p.m.. Throughout the tour, an expert guide in Madeira Wine shall provide all the main information on the wine growing region, its wines and its history. All tastings will be guided so you can understand and appreciate them. All wines that will be tasted can be bought at the cellars/producers we’re visiting. The trips will be made in vans with every comfort, air conditioning and guide monitoring.

What our customers say about us

Wonderful, unique view of Madeira and Madeira wine

Wonderful, unique view of Madeira and Madeira wine
My mum and I had a lovely time on this tour – we really enjoyed seeing the island with its many vistas and versions of wine. A short tour along a levada, several wineries, and some gorgeous views later, and we are much better for having had this experience.

Enjoyable Day

We decided to book the food and wine walking tour and we were glad we did. Our guide Sophia is, as she calls it, a great storyteller. She was able to take us to places that were well off the beaten path.

The food is traditional Madeiran, if you don’t like fish or fruit, it might not be for you. The wines (and one beer) were all delicious.

This does involve a bit of walking, but nothing overly strenuous. Our group was six, but the maximum is 10, so expect an intimate experience. Make sure you save room for the cheesecake at the last stop, it was my favorite part.

Overall, this is a great value for the money.

Highly recommended

Fabulous day out – picked up from our hotel with a group of 9 in total and looked after by the lovely Sophia . I won’t go into too much detail of the itinerary as I think that spoils it but you can look forward to ample wine tastings – an insight into the history of Madeira wine making -a tour of the islands stunning scenery and the highlight for me was the food and hospitality provided at real Madeira homes.
